7 Facts for Booklet Printing

There is more information needed for a booklet printing quotation compare with flyer or name card printing. Today, we are going to share with you some tips when seek for a booklet quotation. What is the popular book size and material and what is the differences for the lamination and what binding method you should choose. Let’s start!

1. Size - Opened & Closed size (Height X Width)

You can always customise the booklet size as per your preference. But the most popular booklet size is A4 or A5 size. A4 size is recommended for the booklet with more content such as price list, product catalog and company profile. The size of A4 also makes people feel comfortable and professional. If you are looking for a booklet size which is easy to carry out and with less content, A5 is your best choice. A5 size is recommended for customers who are doing for school yearbook, co curricular activity book and event book.

2. Material for Content - 105gsm/128gsm/157gsm Art Paper (Recommend) | 80gsm/100gsm Wood Free

“What paper do you recommend?” is the most frequently asked question. Understand everyone will have their own preference on the material, but you should know different materials also serve their own purposes. We have art paper and wood free material for the content material. Art paper is a material with glossy feeling and it is commonly used in flyers, brochures or magazines. Wood free is the writing paper which recommends for customers who need to do writing on the paper.

3. Number of pages (Content) - Multiple by 4 would be great.

The number of pages for content should not be less than 4 pages. Normally for the booklet using saddle stitch binding, the content pages should be multiple by 4 such as 8, 12, 16 and 20. It is also fine to have 22 pages, but there will be 2 white pages without any printing. On the other hand, for the booklet using perfect binding, the content pages should be more than 48 pages. Because we will stack the content pages together to form a block, so the block must have a certain thickness to get enough surface area for the glue to bind the pages and cover together securely. 

4. Material for Cover - Art Card + Matt (Recommended) | Art Card + Gloss | Art Card + Matt + Spot UV | Art Card | Art Paper | Wood Free

Don’t judge a book by its cover, but everyone does. Cover is always the first impression to make the person open your book. Besides a good design or headline for your cover, the material and finishing of the cover are also a key point to make the audience open your book. Art card with lamination is the best choice for your booklet cover. 

Benefit of lamination is enhanced durability, improved appearance and damage protection. Lamination helps to protect your cover and avoid it getting dirty. Moreover, lamination is an affordable way to make your cover long lasting and will not damage so fast. Then how should I decide which lamination? Matt lamination brings you a feeling of high class. The cover will feel softer after applying the matt lamination. Gloss lamination is a shiny, bright lamination and brings your picture outstanding.

5. Cover Printing - Single Side / Double Side

If you just want your cover printed outside, choose a single side. If inside of the cover with printing as well, you may choose the double side. Just sharing, most of the people will not print on the inside of the cover just like most of the books in the library or bookstore. Because printing on the inside of the cover will make the book feel not professional. Leaving it blank is always a good idea!

6. Quantity - Minimum order quantity from 300 books

In fact, we can print the booklet from 10 books onwards but it is not a cost effective way. Thus, we will recommend customers print at least 300 books and above by using offset printing method for the booklet. If you are looking for less quantity, digital printing will be the best option for your booklet. 


7. Binding Method - Saddle Stitch (a.k.a stapler) / Perfect Binding (a.k.a glue binding)

There are different binding methods for different purposes. The most popular binding method used for booklet printing is saddle stitch and perfect binding. Saddle stitch (a.k.a stapler bind) is recommended for less than 60 pages booklet. For 60 pages and above, perfect binding suits you the best.
